How to write a cover letter that gets read
The 3-paragraph rule
Paragraph 1: Why this specific company and role excites you. Not generic enthusiasm — something specific.
Paragraph 2: Two or three achievements that directly match what they're asking for. Numbers preferred.
Paragraph 3: A confident close. When you're available, how to reach you.
The #1 mistake
Starting with "I am writing to express my interest in..." — delete it. Start with something that makes them keep reading.
Match the company's tone
A startup posting that says "we move fast" wants a different letter than a bank's formal job ad.
